Vote for me and all of your wildest dreams will come true
Hi! My name is Peter Keller and I make things.
I’ve made appliances, underwear, football memorabilia, barbells, and more. I’m no genius engineer- in fact, I have a film degree. All I’ve got are a lot of ideas, and I learned long ago how to get people, companies, and factories to make my ideas into products.
Do you have a great idea for a product? I’ll show you how to make it a reality. Want help finding a factory? I’m here for you too. How about just coming up with an idea? You got it- I can teach you how to brainstorm a million dollar idea.
How it all began…
I’d always wanted to own my own business. From elementary school, I would scour the classified ads in the back of Boy’s Life magazine for all the cool gadgets sold, and then I’d buy them and resell them to my friends (side note- selling custom pins in Boy’s Life is how Tony Hsieh of Zappos got his start!) Then in high school, I bought candy at Sam’s Club and roamed the halls reselling it to my classmates.
Fast forward to 2005, and I was working for LivingDirect, an ecommerce business headquartered in Austin, Texas. I was bored with my web marketing job there, and I told my boss I quit, but I would help them find a replacement. My boss was surprised, and a few days later came back with a proposition. “Tom,” an employee of one of our suppliers had quit his job and come to my boss with a proposal of his own. He’d teach us how to source products from China (as he had done for our supplier). In return, all we needed to do was pay him a percentage of our invoices.
This was great, except for one thing. It would require a lot of travel to China from someone in our office, and most of our employees had little travel experience, and no international business experience. On the other hand, I had lived abroad before, and I loved travel. Plus, I was young, and cheap. And, I had a wife, but no kids, so I was willing to work stupid long hours.
So, the proposition was this- work my butt off for six months on this project, and if it worked out, great! If not, then I’d be back where I started- job hunting. I accepted, and I began learning the dark art of sourcing.
Guess what? It worked. I had started at LivingDirect as warehouse help, and I left as Vice President, with a path to CEO. My next act was founding FringeSport to develop strength and conditioning equipment for the CrossFit market.
Since 2005, I’ve successfully launched 4 product brands into the North American market (EdgeStar, Koldfront, OneFitWonder, and Bomba Gear) and 2 retail brands (kegerator.com and FringeSport.com). I’ve developed, sourced, and sold more than $80M in product from factories in the US, China, Spain, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Pakistan. I’ve moved almost 1,000 containers by sea, air, and land.
And I love it. Hard goods, physical products, CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods), whatever you call them- they speak to me. They make sense to me. If you put a product in my hands, I can tell you how and where to make it. And if I’ve got a budget, I can make it happen.
I love seeing ideas come to life. And the timing has never been better. From factories in China lowering their Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs) to the rise of crowdfunding, it’s never been easier to develop and source physical products. And I’ll help you do it.
